About Us

We believe in the transformative power of sustainable mobility.

When more people use active transportation, communities prosper. It is our mission to make sustainable transportation options normal, accessible, and ubiquitous to everyone. We’re in the business of making communities healthier and safer through lasting partnerships.

Our Story

Pedal Movement began in Long Beach, California in 2009, when a group of local cyclists recognized gaps in their community and began filling them: accessible bike repair, secure bike parking at events, and meaningful recognition for the skilled work of bicycle mechanics.

What started as grassroots advocacy quickly grew into a business with a broader purpose, committed to expanding access to reliable transportation and creating real career pathways in the bicycle industry, grounded in fair pay, ongoing training, and respect for the craft. Over time, bike valets and tune-ups evolved into something bigger. Today, Pedal Movement operates the Long Beach Bike Share system, an off-grid solar-power ebike library serving residents of public housing in San Pedro, and a community-focused retail bike shop, while still showing up at local events to park bikes and keep them rolling.

Through it all, we’ve held onto that original spark. We believe mobility is a public good, that strong communities are built through care and connection, and that businesses can play an active role in advancing equity, sustainability, and opportunity.

We remain committed to pushing the boundaries of what a business can be in the 21st century: community-rooted, people-centered, and built for long-term impact.

Our values
